Hi Genevieve,

Leaving Israel was easier than getting in, although much more disorganised, at a much busier border (the King Hussein Bridge to Jordan). We were made to leave all our luggage outside while queuing at immigration, which was a bit unnerving. The Jordanian side was even more disorganised, the power kept failing while passport information was being entered into their computers.

Hi Claire
This article is engaging and thought provoking. Knowing something about the circumstances under which it was written I am amazed at its clarity and detail!

The issue of conscription should perhaps provoke comment from readers. It often requires people to act against their own personal beliefs and has dire consequences, as it had for Avi's family.

The photography helps to bring the article to life and deserves a special mention.

hey, was just wondering how leaving israel went? It is normally harder getting out than in. and india - if it makes you feel any better now that you are there, it takes two weeks to hate it and four weeks to fall in love with it. good luck

hello clari and iain,
whoah that sounds hectic, you had me engrossed from beginning to end, sounds quite freaky at the border, i know that feeling of guiltiness even when you've done nothing wrong, and the image of the soldier with her shopping bags and rifle and sunglasses on her head is really cool.....
love you lots
